One Yoga Class that Dr. Box Especially Enjoyed

Dr. Box: Today’s class (Nov 24) was again a beautiful melding of breath work, meditation and physical challenges (Asanas). At the completion of class I felt tranquil and empowered. I can highly endorse this daily on-line class. Sarahjoy Marsh, the founder of DAYA, teaches Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Tracey Lease teaches on Wednesday and Peggy Profant teaches on Friday.  I invite you to join me and other yogis near and far for a transformative experience. Here’s an added delight: Nakula and Bindi, her ragdoll kittens, are regular visitors to our class.

Why I Practice Yoga with DAYA

At the completion of my yoga practice, I always have a calming of the ceiling fan of the mind. I feel slowed down like a soothing breeze.  I also feel increased flexibility and strength. All the yoga teachers at DAYA lead a well-planned practice.  I find each class engaging and inspiring. Sarahjoy Marsh, the founder, has assembled a skilled set of teachers.

The thing that’s unique about SarahJoy’s studio (virtual since March 2020) is the skillful way the teachers have integrated East and West. We start out every practice with mediation. Next, we chant with Sanskrit words and sentiment. A breath practice called Pranayama follows. Asanas or postures come next. This is the active part of the practice. In conclusion, we get a chance to integrate by resting during Shavasana.

DAYA TRANSLATES AS MERCY OR COMPASSION. They truly embody their name, these teachers are kind, sincere and giving. In alignment with their mission, 100% of all profits support their medical scholarship and outreach programs that make yoga physically, medically, financially, culturally and spiritually accessible.

I love being a member of this community or Sangha (Sanskrit word). On Wednesday nights, we get to go to India virtually to chant with Deobrat Mishra.

I am forever grateful for SarahJoy Marsh and Lynn Morrison for the guidance they have given me in healing my traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Mothers Day Message from Sarahjoy

Dear Marcella,

It’s Mother’s Day.  I hope you are getting meaningful emails from all the places you will receive such messages today. Looking through the lens of yoga and India, when people speak about India it is very common to call her “Mother India”. This reference is throughout India and the world (especially for those who have visited).

There is an intrinsic sense of the sacred, the holy, the divine infused throughout India in its culture, its citizens, its rituals, and its philosophies. Mother India will always welcome us. And, she will, no doubt, transform us too. Often in ways that we could not have predicted, may not have preferred, and yet, must surrender too.

The tradition of yoga comes from this land and is, therefore, also inherently a path of transformation, not by our own design. But a larger transforming through the divine. This will require both our dedication (abhyasa) to practice the tools of yoga and our surrender (vairagyam) of how we think this should all be turning out!

I look forward to seeing you on the mat, online, anytime you can join us. (The link for the online schedule is on my website.)

May this Mother’s Day be one of transformation in just the ways your life is needing.

Yours on the path,

Sarahjoy

I LOVE this Yoga Studio’s approach to yoga. I have always “muscled” my way through yoga: not anymore. Now, I release into each movement according to my capacity. DAYA Foundation sprinkles JOY!
